Recipes for Smoothies

I am a big time smoothie drinker.

Smoothies make it really easy to add fruits and vegetables to your diet in a super tasty way!

Below you will find my basic smoothie recipe to help you get started. You can take this recipe and build on it to create smoothie recipes that you and your family will love.

I drink some version of this smoothie recipe every day (and so does my hubby!) In fact, he is first in line to get his smoothie when he hears the blender blending in the kitchen!

To make healthy delicious smoothies at home, the bare minimum ingredients that you need are fruit and a good blender. I add a few things to my basic smoothie recipe – but in reality you can make the most delicious smoothies simply from FRUIT – pretty darn easy, huh?!

Blenders! Boy have I used MANY different blenders in my lifetime! You see, I have been a smoothie gal for over 20 years….so I have tried nearly every blender you can imagine and I have burned up quite a few of those cheaper ones.

So now…I have two blenders – a blendtec and a vitamix – they both work well for smoothies (and lots of other delicious healthy creations)

So without further ado….here is the easiest smoothie recipe ever!

Easy Smoothie Recipe
2-3 cups of any fruit you love
then blend until smooth

If you like your smoothie more cold you can add a little crushed ice after you blend the fruit.

Ok….that was too easy right? ;)

But you have to start somewhere! And believe me, as simple as that is – it tastes great and kids and hubbies love them!

Where do I get the fruit for my smoothies?

I buy fruit in season when it is lower cost. But year around I find I can get the best price on fruit for smoothies by buying large bags of frozen fruit at Costco or WalMart. Hey…when you drink smoothies every day like I do you need a constant supply of frozen fruit!

The price per pound of delicious frozen fruit on average when I get a 6 lb bag is really cheap – usually about a dollar a pound or a little more.

And the fruit is all ready to go in the smoothies – already cut up and everything. I do thaw out my fruit in the fridge just a little before I make my smoothies. It makes it easier for my blender to blend!

So now you have a really basic smoothie recipe. Fruit and blend. Easy peasy!

Let’s build on that.

Here is what I have in my smoothies almost every day, ok?

Basic Smoothie Recipe

Servings: 2

2-4 cups of frozen fruit

1 banana

1 huge handful of spinach leaves (or romaine, or kale – some kind of greens)

1 scoop of my favorite vegan protein powder (usually the vanilla flavor)

Add a little bit of ice or water and Blend well.

I think the easiest way to make healthy smoothies is to:

  • start with the mixed fruit bags of already cut up frozen fruit.
  • Add a banana if you like bananas.
  • Add some greens (spinach, romaine, kale, chard, etc) so you get some veggies and greens are SO good for you. You won’t even taste them in your smoothie. You will taste the yummy fruit!
  • Add some protein powder if you want protein in your smoothie.
  • Blend it all in a good blender and there you go – - – Healthy delicious smoothies!

And if you want a few more ideas – here you go! You don’t have to follow the recipes exactly. You can use them for inspiration and make your own favorite delicious creation.
