I get asked a lot about the fitbit because I wear one.

If you have been reading my blog for a while you know I am always wearing one or two fitness trackers because they motivate me to move more. And moving more has been a key to me losing weight and keeping it off.

 The Fitbit is a great little device for helping you stick to your health related activity goals. If you’ve never heard of it, the Fitbit is a wireless activity tracker that records all the steps you take and stairs you climb throughout the day.

Using the Fitbit is easy.

Simply clip it to your belt or clothing and wear it throughout the day and it automatically does its thing. (Don’t worry, the Fitbit is small!)

You then wirelessly upload the data from the Fitbit to your computer, where you can track your activity over time. The computer interface also allows you to keep track of your calories, by entering the food you eat throughout the day.

Even using only the most basic functions of the Fitbit will help you achieve your goals more quickly and enjoyably than without it.

Always wear it. Although it’s recommended that you wear your Fitbit at all times, some people don’t follow this advice.  But remember that the Fitbit has the greatest value when it’s able to measure all of your activity throughout the day.

The key concept behind using the Fitbit is not that it will help you get a strenuous cardiovascular workout for 20 or 30 minutes, but then let you spend the rest of the day in active.

Rather, the Fitbit tries to help you stay mildly active throughout the day. Many health experts agree that longer periods of low level physical activity, including a nice dose of walking, is more beneficial than leaving a relatively inactive life that has intense workouts sprinkled in.
