How to Lose Weight Fast in a Healthy Way even when you can’t exercise

Trying to lose weight fast in a healthy way?

But you can’t exercise?

That’s me.

Or you have an injury?

Yep.

I can’t walk like I used to.

I have some weird foot injury the doctors (5 of them so far) are unable to diagnose with any certainty.

Plus I had to have shoulder surgery in January!

Long story short…

Y’all know I love to walk and I usually walk every day for a few miles.

It is my quiet time.  It helps me stay sane.

And it helps me keep those 70 pounds off and keep my heart and body healthy.

7 months ago something awful happened to my feet.

I woke up one morning and found that if I put any weight on them, it hurt BAD!  Excruciating pain in the balls of my feet.

I went to 5 different specialists, got x-rays, got MRIs, and bunches of tests.

Bottom line, the docs did not have any “for sure” idea how to help me. A couple of them suggested surgery (exploratory) – yikes!

At this point, I am trying a conservative treatment that includes wearing boots that immobilize my feet, physical therapy, and injections into my feet (yes shots in my feet – ouch!!)

So here I am, a lady who has done exercise to stay healthy and slim and SANE (!) for the last zillion years…. and I now I can’t even walk?

In fact, I have to wear these ugly walking boots (see the picture) every waking hour of every day. So far I have been wearing them for 3+ months…

NOT Fun.

I am still not able to walk without pain. Still no definitive diagnosis.

But here is the good news. I have not gained weight. In fact I have lost weight.

This is a major deal.

For any of you that have ever lost weight and gained it back, it can be very discouraging to see the scale creeping back up, right? Even downright depressing.

I was very concerned that was where I would be headed – especially during the holidays.

So….how did I keep the weight off?

How did I not gain weight  when I could not exercise?

Well it all began when I watched a movie with my husband called “Forks Over Knives.”

This movie is VERY interesting and shows you  how to easily transition from a typical American Diet (which makes us fat and unhealthy) to a plant based whole foods diet (which helps us easily slim down while eating the most delicious foods – no calorie counting – no starving).

The movie shows you regular folks who follow the plan and what their incredible results were.

After watching the movie, we decided to go for it and began eating a totally Plant Based Diet with no added oils.

We were already eating pretty healthy (we thought….) but this time we went ALL OUT. The movie convinced us that it was the best way to eat for long term health…plus it had the added benefit of easy fast weight loss!

Now before you poo-poo the idea of a plant based diet.

Consider this….

  • You don’t have to count calories.
  • You don’t have to limit your food or starve yourself.
  • You can eat as much as you want.
  • And the food tastes GREAT!

My husband and I LOVE Mexican cuisine. Some of the favorites we enjoy EVERY week are: Enchiladas, Tacos, Burritos, etc.

We also eat some of the most delicious soups, casseroles and salads EVER!

We found many delicious recipes online and in several awesome plant based recipes books written by the doctors in the movies.

Don’t just jump on ANY plant based diet bandwagon….okay?  There are some kooky plant based diets out there.

Please only consider the following doctors for HEALTHY versions of the way to eat :

  1. Caldwell Esselstyn,
  2. T Colin Campbell,
  3. John McDougall
  4. Neal Barnard.

My favorite recipes come from these books.

Bill Clinton followed the “Forks Over Knives” way to eat after his heart bypass surgery.

Don’t wait till you need open heart surgery.

Don’t wait till you are battling diabetes or morbid orbesity or ill health of any kind.

Eating this way is so yummy!

And you lose weight really fast too!

And you will never be hungry. No deprivation.

What shocked me was how easy it was to make the switch.

I get to eat a LOT of delicious food every single day.

I never feel deprived.

I still get desserts and other yummy treats.

And weight loss is easy!

And my hubby? He absolutely loves the food, his chronically high blood pressure has dropped and he has lost weight! He says he never wants to go back to the way he used to eat. Can you believe it? He was a cheese-oholic and now he has no desire to eat it again.
