Burn Calories Fast – 9 Tips to Boost Your Metabolism & Amp Up Your Calorie Burn!

Are you short on time but want the most efficient calorie burn?

You’re not alone!

We’d all like to make the most of our time – get the biggest bang for our buck so to speak.

The following tips show you how to boost your metabolism, naturally of course, and how to add oomph to your workout.

1) The Proof is in the Sip

Drink green tea three times a day.

This green tea is awesome!

Scientists from the University of Geneva in Switzerland found that green tea contains catechin polyphenols. They’re plant chemicals that may boost metabolism.

Green tea also contains caffeine, which provides a temporary metabolism boost too. Make it easy on yourself. Have a cup at breakfast, lunch, and for a mid afternoon pick me up.

2) Put Some Muscle Into It

Muscle burns fat faster than fat.

Increase your muscle mass with a strength training routine.

It doesn’t have to be fancy and you don’t need a full set of weights to get the job done.

Start with your own body weight. Or a set of light hand weights.

Do squats, push-ups and sit-ups while you’re watching television.

3) Be a Savvy Snacker

Proper snacking helps keep your blood sugar levels even, your energy high, and your metabolism humming along.

However, all snacks are not created equal.

A Twinkie isn’t the same as an apple and peanut butter.

If packing healthy snacks is a challenge, consider making your own nutrition bars or find some organic ones at your supermarket. Lara Bar Cashew Cookie healthy snacks are MY  favorite – I keep at least one in my purse or backpack at all times!

4) Spicy Stuff

No wonder I LOVE spicy flavorful food! I am always adding some “hot” spices to my recipes.

This is a great set of spices with a little heat.

Black pepper, cayenne pepper, hot chile peppers are just a few of the spices that have been shown to boost metabolism.

Spice up your meals. Enjoy a kickin’ metabolism and burn more calories.

5) Workout Oomph

Add intervals to your workout. It’s easy to do.

Simply amp it up a few times during your workout.

For example, if you’re walking for five minutes, walk as fast as you can for one minute and then drop it back down to a more sustainable pace. Walk for five more minutes and then speed it up for a minute again. Repeat it until you’ve completed your walk.

Studies have shown that intervals burn more fat and calories.

6) Fidget

Want to burn an extra 300 – 500 calories every day? I do! I do!

Fidget throughout the day and you can burn LOTS of extra calories.

Fidget when you’re sitting. Bounce your legs, tap your fingers, or squeeze a stress ball.

How many times did your mom tell you to “sit still” – well, MY mom told me to “sit still” ALL the time when I was a kid. But it looks like mom was wrong this one time…..

So now I try to fidget all the time…hey…it burns calories! :) Gotta love that you can burn calories in this goofy way.

7) Wiggle It Just a Little Bit

Swing your arms when you walk. You’ll burn 5-10 percent more calories.

Race walkers really get their wiggle on. If you want a super calorie burning workout, learn race walking.

8. Tougher Terrain

When you’re out on your a fitness walk, make your body work a little harder.

Walk on grass or gravel. Hit the trails or walk in a hilly area.

It takes more energy to navigate this tricky terrain and that make you burn more calories!

Below you can see a picture of me and one of my sisters nearing the end of a 12 mile hike through some tough terrain. What blast we had that day! Burned a LOT of calories and really enjoyed our ice cream afterwards! ;)

9) Pole Power

Use walking poles.

According to researchers at the University of Wisconsin, you burn more calories when you walk with walking sticks or hiking poles.

They also help you with balance if you are on uneven terrain, or crossing a stream, etc.

I will definitely incorporate your suggestions into my routine, the only thing is that I am caffeine sensitve and so I usually opt for herbal or decaf.
